HISTORY

Ligna Machinery, Inc.

In 1964, H. E. Wilson, Sr. acquired ownership of Smith Electric Repair, Inc. In June 1968, H. E. (Butch) Wilson, Jr. joined the firm.

During the early 70’s, Smith Electric Repair, Inc. engaged in performing electrical work for the sawmill industry at an ever increasing level. Local sawmillers requested the company’s assistance in manufacturing and installing some small pieces of sawmill machinery. From that beginning, the sawmill machinery business perpetuated itself. We soon became a manufacturers’ representative for several major producers of sawmill machinery. Our expansion into the sawmill machinery business was extremely successful, and during the mid to late 70’s, we grew at an accelerated rate with annual sales volume doubling several times.

In early 1980, it became apparent that the name, Smith Electric Repair, Inc., no longer appropriately depicted the company. On March 14, 1980, the corporate name was changed to

H. E. WILSON INDUSTRIES, INC.

Our sawmill machinery division continued to expand rapidly; first as a distributor of other manufacturers equipment, and then by developing our own line of equipment. Due to this rapid growth, it was decided to make our sawmill division a separate corporation. In October 1986, the sawmill machinery division became LIGNA MACHINERY, INC.

Ligna’s full line of sawmill machinery has enabled us to meet the unique needs of our customers. In addition to Ligna’s full line of equipment, we have been long-time representatives of CLEEREMAN carriages, and of JOCAR band saws, resaws, head-rigs, horizontals, twins, and ring debarkers.

Today, H. E. WILSON INDUSTRIES, INC. and LIGNA MACHINERY, INC. provide formidable competition to companies many times larger. We are constantly researching new ideas for our future growth and expansion. Because of these efforts, we are highly optimistic about our long term growth potential.
